Access to finance

20 September @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Small, Medium and Micro enterprises (SMMEs) play an important role in global economic development. Restricted access to finance is one of the most pressing issues for SMEs. From initial seed capital to growth investment, business leaders need concrete solutions to these very real constraints. When SMMEs are able to access finance and financial services, the results are felt across all levels of society. Growth increases, competition intensifies and low income areas prosper, reducing income inequality and poverty within communities. How can the current financing environment be improved for SMMEs?

This workshop will discuss:

  • the current obstacles SMMEs face when it comes to identifying and attaining sources of funding
  • how chambers can educate businesses about alternative financing and help them identify investors
  • why intermediate platforms connecting SMEs to investors are vital to lowering the barriers to accessing finance
  • how the private sector can work to boost existing support available to SME leaders
